After hurdling an elimination round involving thousands of students of more than a hundred schools from all over the Philippines, the top ten mathscorers in each grade level in Junior High School moved on to the 6th Future Captains of Industry National Competition Finals of Mathscore held at St. Paul College Island Park, Dasmariñas, Cavite last November 23, 2018. At the end of the national contest, two Casans were pronounced National Champions in their grade levels: Daniel Aiken Eduardo for Grade 7 and Jomari Marielle Sandico for Grade 8.

Furthermore, Casa del Niño Science High School was proclaimed Over-all 2nd Runner Up in the Philippines. Another Casan, Paola Angelie dela Rosa, also a national finalist, was unplaced. Understandably, their coaches, Mr. Vincent Bryan Reyes and Mr. Benjamin Aprecio were exultant and felt gratified that their months of hard work resulted in this triumphant conclusion.

Vice President for Academics Dr. Mark Acierto hailed the students and coaches for bringing honors to the school during a program held to celebrate their victory in front of a general assembly of Casans last Monday, 26 November 2018.

Last Saturday, 13 October 2018, the De La Salle University Integrated School held its 10th Sci-Math Interschool Challenge promoting advancement in Science, Mathematics, Arts and Technology. 13 Casans were accompanied by their 6 teacher/trainors to the event which was participated in by 25 established and prestigious schools from Metro Manila and Southern Tagalog.

As in the previous year, the event featured different contests and exhibits where bright and artistic students showcased their scientific capabilities, mathematical skills and talents. The theme for this year was “A Decade of Creating Excellence for the People in Leading Innovations for Collective Prosperity”.

The event aims to increase students’ awareness on how their science, math, arts and technology education can help solve problems related to the improvement of all members of society. The event was held at the De La Salle University Laguna Campus from 8am to 5pm.

At the end of the Sci-Math Interschool Challenge, Team Casa del Niño was ranked Overall 1st Runner up winning a cash prize and a trophy. De La Salle Lipa was adjudged Champion of the event with Manila Science High School as the 2nd Runner Up.

Last , October 6,2018, Grade 11 basketball player Stephen Sorita and Grade 9 volleyball player Angela Muramatsu were declared winners in the recently concluded search for Mr. & Ms. Science 2018.
From the very start, both students were frontrunners, having won the Best in Uniform segment which carries the highest percentage in the criteria for judging. Aside from winning the title, Sorita also won Best in Uniform, Best in Casual Wear, Teachers’ Choice, Mister Personality and Best in Formal Wear. Angela won two other sashes aside from snagging the Miss Science 2018 title: Teachers’ Choice and Best in Uniform.
1st Runners up were Juan Miguel Enriquez from Grade 9 and Graduating Senior High Student Princess Sabando, 2nd Runners Up: John Alex Pahamtang of Grade 8 and Jannie Pamela Perilla, Grade 10; 3rd Runners Up were Sebastian Aquino of Grade 9 and Jen Macarilao of Grade 10 and 4th Runners Up, Grade 7 John Geofferson Amandy and Frances Papas, Grade 11.
Judging that night were Former Miss Science titleholders, Dr. Bernadette Nepomuceno-Datu and Carla de Castro together with Ginoong Laguna 1st Runner Up, SK Chairman Miguel Mendez who received handpainted acrylic portraits by the pageant director, Chito Maramag as tokens of appreciation.
The event was hosted by Mr. Vincent Reyes and Outgoing Mr. Science 2017 Jeric Jacob Sorita who crowned his younger brother that night. Ms. Science 2017 Zia Villarente came home all the way from Finland where she now studies just to crown her successor.
CDN CEO Ms. Farah Acierto crowned the new winners together with her brother, EVP Dr. Mark G. Acierto who remarked about how organized the event was.

Various activities were mounted by the PEHM department in preparation for SY 2018-2019 starting with summer trainings and workshops. Coach Dharies Creencia of the Basketball Varsity Team started the selection process for his squad early in April while Teachers Eric Medenilla of the Music Club, Kennedy Tabon of CADENCE, Bheverly Rolda of Danzartes and Chito Maramag of Malebox conducted dance and music performance workshops during the summer vacation.
The composition of the two Basketball Varsity Teams (Team A and Team B) was announced Last May 1 after several weeks of tryouts with students from CDN and different schools participating. It was learned from Sports Development Office head Mr. Dennis Cabanban that interested Casans may still try out for the remaining slots.
Meanwhile, a recital of the Performing Arts groups dubbed as “MusiCASAyaw” culminated their workshops last June 2 at the Auditorium of the Elementary Campus in Phase 6, San Pedro, Laguna to highlight the talents of the members with members’ parents, teachers and other supporters in the audience. The activity was deemed successful judging from the reactions and feedback of the audience.
Danzartes, CADENCE, Music Club and Malebox are still open to aspiring members to bolster their groups for future performances which are already lined up for the school year. Among these activities will be a Cultural Show at the Insular Life Theatre in Alabang, Muntinlupa City scheduled as the culminating activity of the 38th Foundation Celebration in January 2019.
With these undertakings, these groups along with the other departments are up and more than ready for the challenges of the school year.

Former Champions Batch 2002 proved their might once again in the CDN Interbatch Alumni Basketball League as they won over Batch 2012 with a score of 73 – 50 in the Finals held at the Phase 6 campus Basketball Gym, San Pedro, Laguna where they received their trophy with batchmate Leo Neil Viado as Most Valuable Player.

Spearheaded by Sports Development Officer Dennis Cabanban, the League drew 10 batches that participated in the summer games. Declared as Mythical 5 players were Jok Jok Raña, AJ dela Cruz, Kenneth Non, Jan Jason Malumay and Bryan Ilarde.

The next edition of the league will follow soon as declared by Mr. Cabanban who was elated by the successful season of the unifying games.

15 out of 15 Grade 11 Casans passed the Japan University Examination (JPUE) held last October 2017 at the Senior High School Department after a written test and an interview done via Skype. The following Casans were subsequently granted scholarships after the interview held through the internet: Gabrielle Kim Baldoz, Anna Angelica Obsequio, Mary Jane Lore, Jeric Jacob Sorita, Jason Rowel Reyes, Andrei Christian Palo, Abraham Carl Militar, Christian Lawrence Carrillo, Brian Monteino, Jules Adrian Balota, Austin Gyan Marbella, Kenneth Luis Dandal, Mark Jason Janala, Joshua Livi Regaspi and Bryan Kristoffer Ferrer.

In Asia, the admission tests were held in Shanghai, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Philippines. Since the first time it was administered in 2014, over 300 students have successfully fulfilled their dream to study in Japan. Here in the country, only Casa del Niño Science High School was chosen among all schools in Southern Luzon. Senior High School OIC Mr. Herbert San Pedro said that, “This fact alone is a testament to the prestige, caliber and ability of our institution in developing world-class students.”

Among the prestigious schools that accepted the 15 Casans are Kagawa University in Takamatsu, Chiba University in Inage Ward, Chiba Prefecture and Yamagata University in Yamagata Prefecture, all National Universities in Japan. 12 other universities also participated in the program and will gladly welcome the Casans in case they decide to accept the offer and enroll in their campuses.

Aside from the entrance exams, passers of the admission test must study the Japanese language as a prerequisite before enrolling.

Dr. Rosario Acierto, President of Casa del Niño Schools System, Inc., expressed her pride and congratulations to the Casans and their parents for this achievement. “I wish these students will take this once in a lifetime opportunity which will open doors for a bright future and successful career,” she said.

During the Awarding Ceremonies of the 37th Foundation Celebration of Casa del Niño held last Monday, January 29, 2018, Grade 10 was declared overall Champion after all scores were tallied. Some of the games that were contested were Basketball Boys and Girls, Volleyball Boys and Girls, Chess, Game of the Generals, Tug of Love, etc.
The celebration begun on Tuesday, 23 January 2018 with the CEO, Ms. Farah Acierto-Cabanban, officially starting the festivities. During the week-long commemoration, Casans took part in showcasing their abilities in programs such as Casans Got Talent and Fun Run. Students who were not exposed prior to these activities now have a new found fame and confidence, making the celebration a successful event.
Kudos to the MAPEH Department, Sports Development Office, Student Council Officers and Faculty Members who helped in organizing and facilitating the various activities held during the week.

On the evening of December 16, 2017, Casa del Niño performers trooped to the San Pedro City Plaza in front of the old Municipal Hall to showcase their talents as the institution’s participation in the city’s annual Paskuhan program. It started drizzling early which prevented a prompt commencement of the school’s prepared repertoire.
After a delay of almost an hour, the event started with a prayer performed by all the groups that prepared for said program. Led by Sir Kennedy Tabon, singers of the different choirs namely CADENCE, Music Club, Danzartes and Malebox together with soloists Seb Saldavia and Shane Brutas went up on stage to pray for a peaceful and dry night.
However, the show was interrupted several times by an intermittent drizzle which threatened to halt the event altogether. After a few stoppages, the performers went on with the show and finished their prepared songs and dances.
As usual, dancers from our branch in Santa Rosa also participated with a lively number that showcased their terpsichorean talents. A group of teachers also contributed a dance number to the proceedings. To add flavor to this year’s preparation , a group of 10 selected male Casans modeled barongs and coats designed for pageants, weddings and special occasions by Student Affairs Director Mr. Chito Maramag.
Hosted by Grade 8 student Miguelle Zander Jose and Princess Sabando of the Senior High School, the CDN Paskuhan Night ended peacefully and successfully after a couple of hours. Teachers and parents who watched the show were unanimous in declaring the show a worthwhile event which made them proud to be part of Casa del Niño Montessori & Science High School. Credits go to the trainors of the performers: Mr. Kennedy Tabon of CADENCE, Ms. Bheverly Rolda of Danzartes, Mr. Eric Medenilla of Music Club and Mr. Chito Maramag of Malebox. Congratulations teachers and Casan performers.

Four Casans took home medals in an inter-school competition sponsored by Rotary Club District 3820 last September 2, 2017 at the New CAS Auditorium, University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna. Students from several schools in Southern Tagalog competed in two categories: Oratory & Impromptu Speaking. With an over-all theme of Great Convergence 2017 the competitions focused on Voices of the Youth and Rotarians in Making a Positive Difference in the World.
Representing Rotary Club of San Pedro (RCSP), Ma. Bianca F. Reyes was 1st Runner-Up in the Oratorical Contest while Tanya Fracesca R. Granados was declared Champion in Impromptu Speaking.
Carrying the torch for Rotary Club of San Pedro South, Maria Angelina Isabel A. Ebora placed 2nd Runner-up in Oratory while Rabbanah Galilei P. Mendoza snatched the 2nd Runner-Up position in Impromptu Speaking.
Being an area level competition, the Champions of both Oratory & Impromptu Speaking will move on to the Finals of the whole District 3820 sometime in November 2017 where winners of Laguna (Area 1), Batangas/Mindoro (Area 2) Quezon/Marinduque (Area 3) and Bicol (Area 4) will compete against each other.
The winning Casans were trained by Ms. Yoly Jakosalem together with Ms. Kiah A. Libiran, both Faculty Members of Casa del Niño Science High School’s English Department. Dr. Mark G. Acierto, EVP for Academics and a Past President of RCSP was instrumental in making their participation possible.
Rotary Great Convergence (formerly known as Rotaryo Educare) is an event to uphold Rotary’s commitment in developing youth leaders while focusing on Literacy and Education. The Laguna-wide contest was spearheaded by Rotary Club of Los Baños Makiling.
CDNSSI President Dr. Rosario Acierto lauded the students and their parents for bringing honor to the school and continuing the legacy of academic excellence for which Casa del Niño is known .

Dr. Mark G. Acierto, Executive Vice President of CDNSSI recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Autodesk, a global software company to enhance the curriculum of Casa del Niño Science High School, particularly the Senior High School Department. Representing Autodesk during the signing was Engr. Jomarc Baquiran who came with members of his staff.
For its educational advocacy in the Philippines, Autodesk has partnered with MechaniWeb to bolster the global competitiveness of the Filipino Students with the aid of Autodesk Technology using Fusion 360, its latest design software.
Fusion 360 is a cloud-based CAD/CAM tool for collaborative product development which combines fast and easy organic modeling with precise solid modeling, allowing students and professionals alike to make their designs manufacturable. Their education in this particular software will elevate the students’ technological abilities to be at par with those in advanced countries like Singapore, United States and Germany where the software is used as a design tool.
With the signing of the memorandum, Senior High School students will begin their Fusion 360 education by participating in an intensive 2-day workshop at De La Salle Zobel in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Autodesk will also follow this up with asssistance as Fusion 360 will be taught in the Senior High School during the School Year.
After completion of the course, the students will be able to design their own product from idea to prototype.
Dr. Mark Acierto is confident that with their education in this latest tool incorporated in our school’s curriculum, Casans will have more relevant knowledge that they can use immediately or in the future in an age where technology is driving almost every aspect of the workplace.
